Project description
Paper snake is a collaborative initiative. An inter-department artistic undertaking that aimed to merge the various skills and talents across different classes of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, in an effort to converge student practices around a central concept, to produce an artwork.
The Project is titled Paper Snake. Owing to its concept of texture and complex layer-building and shedding, which is inspired by the skin of the snake.
Paper Snake invited artists to participate in the texturing process of two 25-meter-long paper works.
In an experimental feat that encourages all media compatible with paper, like drawing, painting, printing, folding, ink staining, watercolouring etc. in a task towards texture and complex layer-building. One that brings together several artistic approaches onto paper, to interact, communicate, complement and contradict one another, as a cohesive work.
The finished works reflect not only a visual representation of textured layers and complex structuring, but also embody the layering of the multiple artistic positions from the various classes and departments that made the project possible.
